Job Overview:
The Underwriter will be responsible for assessing and evaluating insurance applications to determine coverage and pricing. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of insurance policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Review insurance applications and supporting documents to evaluate risk, eligibility, and coverage.
Analyze underwriting data, including medical records, credit reports, and claims history.
Determine appropriate coverage levels and pricing based on risk assessment.
Communicate with agents, brokers, and policyholders to gather additional information or clarify requirements.
Understand and apply insurance policies, exclusions, and regulations to ensure compliance.
Conduct research on industry trends and best practices to continuously improve underwriting processes.
Collaborate with other departments, such as claims and actuarial, to gather and analyze data for risk assessment.
Participate in training programs and stay updated with industry knowledge and changes.
Provide support and guidance to junior underwriters as needed.
Maintain accurate records and documentation for underwriting decisions and transactions.
Proven experience as an underwriter or in a similar role in the insurance industry.
Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
Sound knowledge of insurance policies, regulations, and underwriting principles.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
Proficiency in computer systems and underwriting software.
Professional certifications in underwriting are a plus.
