Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary liaison with regulators and manage interactions with agencies such as FinCEN, OFAC, IRS, CFPB, FINTRAC, Bank of Canada, AFM / DNB Europe, and state regulators (e.g., NYDFS).
  • Serve as the lead for money transmitter and virtual asset licensing compliance, overseeing regulatory reporting and license expansion efforts.
  • Drive a culture of compliance and risk awareness by developing and delivering training initiatives for employees and stakeholders.

Operational & Regulatory Oversight

  • Oversee compliance onboarding functions while collaborating with sales, product, customer success, and finance teams to align compliance with business growth.
  • Stay ahead of regulatory changes and proactively update policies and procedures, incorporating risk assessments for new products and services.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop disclosures and procedures that meet regulatory requirements for new product launches.
  • Serve as the point of contact for internal audits and regulatory inquiries, ensuring transparency and cooperation in compliance matters.
  • Review independent compliance audits and assessments, ensuring timely remediation and reporting of findings to key stakeholders.
  • Regularly report to executive leadership, the Enterprise Risk Committee, and Board of Directors, providing insights into compliance risks and mitigation strategies.

Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of comprehensive risk and compliance leadership experience, including a minimum of 2 years specializing in regulatory compliance within the cryptocurrency industry.
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience managing and developing corporate compliance teams, with a focus on transaction monitoring, BSA/AML compliance, and risk management programs.
  • Varied experience supporting different environments and teams, including both startup/small company settings and large, established companies, demonstrating adaptability and hands-on leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively manage and inspire a diverse compliance team, foster collaboration across departments, and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence, motivate, and guide teams while ensuring alignment with compliance objectives.
  • Experience working with regulators and agencies, including FinCEN, OFAC, IRS, CFPB, FINTRAC, Bank of Canada, AFm / DNB Europe and NYDFS, with direct involvement in licensing and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Working knowledge of the U.S. and EU travel rules, OFAC sanctions regulations, and CFPB consumer protection rules.
  • Strong background in compliance for consumer and business (merchant) financial products.
  • Experience with NYDFS regulations, including the BitLicense process and Part 504 compliance.
  • Proven ability to advise senior leadership on compliance strategy, risk management, budgets, and corporate communications.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage regulators, stakeholders, and clients across various levels.
  • A track record of success in fast-paced, performance-driven environments, balancing risk management with business growth.
  • CAMS certification is required; CGSS, CRCM, and blockchain forensic tool certifications are strongly preferred.

What We Offer:

  • Thrive in a rapidly expanding crypto company with global reach, where your contributions make a tangible impact.
  • Work remotely with a generous vacation policy, including the opportunity to take a sabbatical and select your own holidays.
  • Access to continuous learning and development opportunities, supported by professional development reimbursement.
  • Competitive salary package with comprehensive benefits, including telemedicine, life insurance, disability insurance, vision coverage, 401(k), travel assistance, fully covered medical and dental plans, and more.
  • Option to receive payment in cryptocurrency, along with a crypto match program.
